This course consists of eleven 4-5-day seminars spread over two years.
This training provides a wide range of techniques and tools to effectively and safely practice Craniosacral Biodynamics in a professional capacity. These techniques are mastered in a favorable and creative environment.
The Biodynamic Approach is based on understanding of the natural forces that organize our form and function. It is oriented on a human as a single whole. Within this approach the interconnections of body, mind and spirit are deeply acknowledged. The biodynamic approach was pioneered by osteopath Dr. William Sutherland who discovered the series of subtle rhythms that may be sensed through the body bringing order and integration to both body and mind. Dr. Sutherland realized that these subtle motions are essentially produced by our inherent life force, which he referred to as the ‘Breath of Life’. The Breath of Life acts as our most fundamental organizing force which governs all other aspects of our physiological functioning. Therefore, the free and balanced expression of these rhythms is essential for our health and wellbeing.
We work with the principle that within each of us there is an unerring intelligence that is constantly seeking health and optimal balance – something that starts during our embryological development and continues throughout life. The role of the practitioner is to support this natural tendency, so that treatment can be effectively applied according to the needs of each patient. We aim to provide a safe and supportive environment in which students can learn and develop.
The principles outlined in the pioneering work of Dr. Sutherland and his student Dr. Becker, together with the integrative approaches of Michael Kern and Franklyn Sills have played a major part in the development of course content and teaching methods. The course incorporates extensions of the work developed by other practitioners in the field and students are also introduced to related fields of practice, including Dr. Peter Levine's and Babette Rothschild's approaches for working with the effects of shock and trauma, Dr. Stephen Porges’ new findings about the autonomic nervous system, Dr. William Emerson's work in pre-natal and birth process and Dr. Raymond Castellino's approach to working with babies, children and families.

The training provides a good balance of theory and practice, with much classroom time dedicated for practical session work. An emphasis is placed on the development of palpatory, perceptual and treatment skills which the student can integrate in a step by step process. The development of skills is based on the comprehensive support by supervision and feedback from tutors. Comprehensive course notes are provided to support the learning process.
Course study continues between training modules. This includes practicing skills studied during the seminars, written work, reading and explorations in anatomy.
